Huawei will launch its nova 16s smartphone series in the Philippines on Oct. 30, offering 200-megapixel main cameras, 5G connectivity and AI-assisted photography features at prices starting at P29,999.
The lineup comprises the nova 16s and nova 16s Pro, priced at promotional preorder rates of P29,999 and P39,999, respectively. Huawei said the limited-time offers include a P5,000 discount and a gift bundle worth up to P14,997 for customers who preorder.
The company is emphasizing camera technology, particularly color accuracy in selfies and rear-camera photography, as a central feature of the new devices.
The nova 16s Pro has a dual front-camera system that includes a 50-megapixel Ultra Portrait Camera and a multispectral sensor designed to detect ambient color temperatures. Huawei said the system is intended to preserve skin tones and makeup colors under different lighting conditions, including concert lighting and low-light environments.
The front camera also supports a claimed 0.8x-to-5x selfie zoom range, allowing users to switch between wider group shots and closer portraits.
200MP camera and AI editing tools
On the rear, the nova 16s Pro has a four-camera system anchored by a 200-megapixel main camera with a 1/1.28-inch sensor and an f/1.8 aperture. A dedicated True-to-Color Camera is designed to improve color reproduction across the other rear lenses.
The series also introduces several AI-assisted image editing features. AI Composition provides guidance on framing, lighting and subject placement, while AI Move allows users to reposition subjects in an image. AI Remove deletes unwanted objects or people from backgrounds, and AI De-Glare reduces reflections in photographs taken through glass. AI Best Expression selects facial expressions from multiple shots for group photos.
Huawei said the devices run EMUI 16 and include its Celia AI Assistant for voice commands and other tasks. A cross-operating-system file transfer feature is designed to support sharing files and high-resolution photos with Apple devices, including iPhones, iPads and MacBooks.
Battery, display and connectivity
Both phones are equipped with a 7,000-milliampere-hour battery and support 100-watt Huawei SuperCharge Turbo. The company claims the system can charge the battery to 40 percent in 15 minutes.
The devices feature a 6.84-inch display with an adaptive refresh rate ranging from 1 hertz to 120Hz and a claimed peak brightness of 6,000 nits.
Huawei is also promoting 5G connectivity for uploading high-resolution photos and videos, mobile gaming and other data-intensive activities. The announcement does not identify the specific chipset powering the devices or provide independent measurements of their network performance.
The nova 16s Pro has an aerospace-grade aluminum frame and Kunlun Glass, which Huawei says offers 10 times greater drop resistance and five times greater wear resistance than the previous generation. The handset measures 7.1 millimeters thick and weighs 218 grams.
The Pro model will be available in Breathing Crystal, Isle Blue and Starry Black, while the standard nova 16s comes in Breathing Crystal, Starry Black and Sky White.
Preorders and promotional offers
Preorders open on Oct. 30 through Huawei’s sales channels. The company is also offering an online-store deposit promotion running from Oct. 23 to 11:59 p.m. on Oct. 29, under which a P500 deposit qualifies for a P6,000 discount.
Early buyers through Shopee, Lazada and TikTok Shop can claim a P5,000 voucher, subject to availability and the applicable terms.
Huawei has also launched the TikTok #TrueColorsSelfieChallenge, which began on Oct. 23. The company said the promotion has a total prize pool worth P2,249,950, with the 50 users recording the highest views set to win a nova 16s Pro each.
The launch adds another premium smartphone option to the Philippine market, with Huawei combining high-resolution camera hardware, AI editing features and 5G connectivity to compete in a segment where imaging capabilities remain a major selling point.
