Smart records zero dropped calls in latest NTC Metro Manila tests

Smart Communications Inc. recorded an average call drop ratio of zero percent in the latest quality-of-service tests conducted by the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) in Metro Manila, while reaching peak mobile broadband speeds of 377 megabits per second (Mbps) at a test site in Mandaluyong City.

The NTC’s drive tests found that Smart met the regulator’s prescribed call drop threshold of below 2 percent, according to the telecommunications company.

The peak broadband speed was recorded along San Francisco Street in Mandaluyong City. The result represents a measurement at a specific test location rather than an average speed across Metro Manila.

Debbie Hu, PLDT and Smart first vice president and head of network build and implementation, said the results indicated reliable voice-call performance but added that the company would continue working with the regulator to assess network quality and address areas for improvement.

“Our zero-percent call drop ratio in the latest NTC tests is a positive result for voice-call reliability,” Hu said. “We remain committed to working closely with the NTC to assess network performance, address areas for improvement, and deliver a more dependable mobile experience for our customers.”

Smart also cited results from the Department of Information and Communications Technology’s (DICT) September 2026 Oplan Bantay Signal report, a separate assessment of mobile network performance.

Under that assessment, Smart maintained a “Good” overall network rating with a score of 80.3 and an average download speed of 52.22 Mbps, which the company said was the fastest among the mobile networks evaluated.

The report also recorded zero “crisis cities” for Smart nationwide for the fifth consecutive month, with all measured cities registering speeds above 15 Mbps.

Separately, Ookla recognized Smart for Best Mobile Video Experience in the Philippines for the first half of 2026, awarding the network a Video Score of 72.82, the highest among local mobile operators, according to the company.

The results come as regulators and telecommunications operators continue to assess mobile service quality through drive tests and other network performance measurements. Call drop ratios, download speeds and video experience scores measure different aspects of connectivity and should be considered separately when evaluating overall service performance.
