Samsung Electronics Philippines has partnered with Cordillera Mountain Ultra (CMU), a trail-running event in Benguet, to promote the use of wearable technology for navigation, performance monitoring and outdoor activities through its Galaxy Watch Ultra2.
Under the partnership, Samsung becomes the event’s official smartwatch partner through its Trail with Galaxy initiative, which will include community sessions and trail experiences intended to introduce more Filipinos to trail running and demonstrate the smartwatch’s features in outdoor conditions.
CMU is an annual trail-running event that draws participants across the Cordillera’s mountainous terrain, offering distances for experienced runners and those new to the sport. Registration for the 2026 event is open until Nov. 30, according to Samsung.
The Galaxy Watch Ultra2 includes dual-frequency global positioning system (GPS), Trail Run Mode and GPX route guidance to help runners navigate routes and monitor performance indicators such as elevation, climbing progress and pace.
The smartwatch also has a titanium body, IP69K and 10ATM ratings for resistance to dust, water and pressure, a display with a peak brightness of up to 5,000 nits, and an 800-milliampere-hour battery. Its Nutrition Alert feature provides hydration guidance based on estimated sweat loss.
JP Alipio, CMU organizer, said the partnership would support the event’s efforts to encourage more people to explore the outdoors.
“Our goal is to bring more people outdoors. For the last two decades, that has been our advocacy and main driver of our work,” Alipio said. He added that the partnership would help broaden the initiative through technology designed for outdoor exploration and adventure.
Jun Guevara, Samsung Electronics Philippines director and head of corporate marketing, said the collaboration would give runners opportunities to test the smartwatch’s capabilities as they prepare, run and recover.
Beyond race day, Samsung and CMU plan to hold community activities where participants can learn from experienced runners, meet other trail-running enthusiasts and experience Galaxy technology outdoors.
The partnership comes as wearable devices offer increasingly specialized tools for outdoor sports, combining location tracking, performance metrics and activity monitoring in a single device. While these features can help runners assess their progress and navigate routes, users must still account for trail conditions, weather and other safety considerations.
